Code of Conduct Followed By Migration Agents

The legislation has set out the ‘Code of Conduct,’  that the Registered Migration Agents should follow. It is there to regulate the registered migration agents conduct. There is a provision for the Code of Conduct for the registered migration agents under Section 314 of the Migration Act 1958. They also prescribed it in Migration Agents Regulations 1998 under Schedule 2, Regulation 8.

The obligation of the agents as per this code covers various aspects which include:

  • The interactions agent has with the clients
  • Fees and charges, financial management, and record keeping
  • Responsibilities toward other employees and agents
  • The need for an agent to respond when there is a complaint made against them.

One of the other obligations that the agents have is to display the Code in client’s waiting area, as well as the Agent’s office. It is the responsibility of the agent to present a copy of the Code of Conduct to the customer if he requests for it.
