Temporary Graduate Visa

International students who have graduated from a university or college in Australia are eligible for this visa.

People who have this visa can reside, study and work in Australia to get the necessary local experience for a temporary period. Students who apply as a primary applicant for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) will get only one.

This visa has two streams:

  • Post-Study Work Stream
  • Graduate Work Stream

It is essential that you as a primary applicant and all those you list on the visa application should be present in Australia when you apply for it until they make a decision.

    Graduate Work Stream

All the international students who have graduated and possess the necessary skills and do qualify for an occupation as listed under SOL are eligible to apply for the visa. The visa that falls under this stream is valid for almost 18 months from the time they approve it.

Applicants who have completed a trade qualification in Australia and are now working in a nominated occupation can, however, choose to go with a TRA – Job Ready Program and get a complete skill assessment within the 18 months.

Graduates from other streams can choose to complete a Professional Year Program or get at least one-year work experience that is relevant. You can then apply and get a skill assessment from a relevant authority.

    Post-Study Work Stream

International students who have graduated from a university or college with a higher degree irrespective of the field they studied can apply for this visa. People who get a visa under this stream for almost four years from the date they grant it. But it depends primarily on the qualification of the visa applicant.
